Traditional Media (Blog 9)
I don't believe that traditional media will become less relevant even though there are a lot of people accessing information from social media sites. I don't believe that the social media sites have the power to erase traditional media sites simply because anybody can make a page on facebook and name it "Democratic Party" or "Republican Party" etc. and add their own information and opinions without some people knowing any better. It is true that some traditional media sites are biased in terms of politics and other matters in our country and around the world, but at least there are other sites with sensible staff that will provide a "less biased" alternative. As far as other major news stories there is no way that social media will be able to diminish that simply because even though the internet is one of the fastest ways of obtaining information, almost always the news reporters are the first to hear about it.

I completely agree with you. I definitely don't see social media taking over the world. It's the same as wikipedia, yeah we all use it, but we're not going to go quote it because anyone can edit it. I do see however social media sites become more of a usage for advertisement, but I think that's as far as it will go.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you. As you said^ wikipedia and social networking sites will not take over the world or the news because we can't quote it or relay on it. Anyone can edit it and make it say what ever the person wants it to say.
ReplyDeleteI do find that traditional media is absolutely needed in our society. If we lose that, then what do people have to fall back on. I know tons of people that need to read the paper. These people might be technologically illiterate. That being so, this is the only way for some people to receive news or information. I do not want to lose this information forever.
ReplyDeleteI do not feel that traditional media is needed. I do believe that it is losing its relevance. Traditional media seems like it is for the older people in the world. everything that people want to know about the world can be found on the internet. People can go on a newspapers website and find out about everything that is in the newspaper and access it for free. People are becoming more and more consumed with internet and cellphones so they do not need traditional media like newspapers.
