The New Media (Blog #9)

The ways that people are sharing information and has always been evolving. Currently these methods are adapting to how the Internet, and how the Internet allows people to new information and discussions instantly. The Internet has become its own special brand of news that focuses on the individual. Most forms of news on the Internet (forums, blogs, Twitter/Facebook posts, ect) are for personal use.
The article New Media, Old Media shows the results of a study that compares the types of media that is covered in the traditional press and the Internet. One of the discoveries of the study was that bloggers tend to discuss “events that affect personal rights and cultural norms”, more often then other topics. In my personal experience I have noticed this as well, but I have also noticed that most blogs do not include that much variety about what is discussed whereas traditional media, I think, has a broader scope for news worthy events.
In conclusion I think that although the article New Media, Old Media gives some interesting information about the current evolution of the media, I do not think that the traditional press will be replaced any time soon.

  1. I agree with your post. I do feel that blogs often have a more personal feel to them. I really think that it is nice to find blogs that are for everyone and blogs cater to different view points. I can find blogs on variety of different topics however, I wonder if blogs should be seen as truly knowledgeable about a particular topic. I think that there needs to be more fact checking if blogs are to be seen as a source of news for people to get informed.

  2. I agree with both of you. If blogs and other social networking cites are going to be considered sources other than using an actual news site (like CNN), than there definitely needs to be more fact checking. There has been plenty of times where I have been misguided by believing a blog; it's more based on opinions than facts.

  3. I agree with all of you. Most social networking sites all pertain to the persons own life instead of the broader and grander scheme of the news topic. Newspapers and traditional forms of the news wont be replaced anytime soon, just as you said, because they give the real news not the, opinionated and personal news of someone else

  4. When you say you don't think traditional press will be replaced any time soon, I completely agree with you. Seeing as how technology has changed over the years,I really appreciate the form of newspaper to find information. That is how I grew up and I don't want to lose that form of information. Plus losing the newspaper would put people out of work and that is not a good thing. Although one thing that news papers have is an ended supply of news. There is only so much they can print, whereas the internet hosts every article.
